Amy grew up in Amarillo, Texas, training and competing in Power Tumbling & Trampoline and, later, Women’s Artistic Gymnastics. After 7 years in the sport, Amy exited gymnastics as a competitor and sought to share her love of the sport through coaching children’s recreational gymnastics at Amarillo Community College (2008 – 2012).
In August of 2014, Amy entered the world of CrossFit and became hooked. Amy’s immediate appeal to CrossFit stemmed from her appreciation of the sport’s utilization of fundamental skills and conditioning derived from gymnastics. Yet it was the entirely new physical and mental stimuli offered in CrossFit through Olympic Weightlifting, Power Lifting, and Metabolic Conditioning that held her intrigue and ultimately led her to compete in local CrossFit competitions. The all-encompassing nature of CrossFit made fitness fun, challenging, and intellectually engaging.
While the methodology of CrossFit captured Amy’s interest, it was CrossFit OKC’s community, the knowledge of the trainers, and the passion for each other’s fitness and goals within the gym, that turned CrossFit OKC into a second home. Amy has been a member of CrossFit OKC since February of 2016 and began coaching as a trainer in May of 2017.
“I love the practice of CrossFit and its incorporation of so many elements of other well-renowned sports. No matter how fit you become, there is always a skill-set or strength used in CrossFit that you can improve and practice upon—and who doesn’t love challenging him/herself to be become better?”
